What's at Stake in the November Presidential Election
Editor's note: We're heading into what could be the ugliest presidential election ever...
On the Republican side, the incumbent Donald Trump is already ramping up the type of rhetoric that has made him one of the most divisive figures in American political history.
Meanwhile, on the Democratic side, presumptive nominee Joe Biden is running on perhaps the most radical leftist platform that we've ever seen from a mainstream candidate.
If Biden becomes our next president – under heavy pressure from the far-left wing of the Democratic party – he will more than likely proclaim his "social justice" roots and could offer more handouts than every other president combined.
This weekend's Masters Series is adapted from the fourth edition of our book, The Battle for America. Today, we'll start with why the possibility of Joe Biden winning the presidency should scare you...
What's at Stake in the November Presidential Election
From The Battle for America, a book from Stansberry Research
We live in uncertain times...
The global COVID-19 pandemic has turned policymaking on its head. The trillions of dollars in stimulus have created a new, incredibly powerful hidden force in our country that may entrench some of the most progressive ideologs in our politics into the White House.
The steps the next administration will likely take in its first 100 days in office will push our nation into financial crisis, creating a nightmare for Baby Boomers and anyone else who has saved money.
Your savings could be wiped out.
The stock market, just months after the pandemic-fueled collapse, could crash again.
The way of life you've enjoyed for 40 years could end, disrupting your retirement.
You might think that Biden's background as a centrist, go-along-to-get-along pillar of the Democratic party for the past few decades means that he'll be a predictably Democratic candidate and president.
Of course, that would be bad enough. But the thing is, this isn't yesterday's Democratic party. And Joe Biden – a professional politician whose greatest skill and defining talent is understanding which way the ideological wind is blowing – won't be the kind of president that most people expect him to be.
Biden's image as a "centrist" or "moderate" won't last long because there's only one way that he will win – and that's if he can tap into the groundswell of support that Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and other progressives rode during their campaigns.
And that will happen only one way: If "Uncle Joe" turns hard left and embraces many of the positions of Sanders and Warren.
Warren, a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts and former law-school professor at Harvard University, was deeply involved in the Obama administration's efforts to rescue the American financial system after the 2008 to 2009 economic crisis. Her main efforts were focused on handouts, rather than supporting the financial system.
Sanders has the strongest socialist credentials of any politician in America. Early in his career, he participated in a communal back-to-the-land movement and was a vociferous anti-Vietnam War protestor.
Throughout his career – first as mayor of Burlington, Vermont and later representing the state in Congress – Sanders has self-identified as a democratic socialist. Some of his most cherished positions include universal health care, free tuition at public universities and colleges, and tax hikes on the wealthy. He has also supported tighter regulation for Wall Street and campaign-finance reform.
Warren and Sanders are in the driver's seat as the Democrats hone their platform for the presidency. Biden knows that he can't win without their support – and without the votes of their supporters... many of whom are Millennials.
Biden knows that the only way you get debt-burdened Millennials to show up and vote for you is by making the most radical promises American politics has ever seen.
For the first time ever, this year, there will be more Millennial voters than Baby Boomer voters able to decide a presidential election.
That's extremely worrisome when, according to a study from research firm YouGov, more Millennials say they would prefer to live in a socialist society than a capitalist nation.
And that's exactly what we believe will happen in 2020.
Don't forget, at one point in 2016, Sanders had as much as 84% of the Millennial vote. Altogether, he received more primary votes from this age group than Clinton and Trump combined.
According to a May 2019 article in the Wall Street Journal, "American Millennials are approaching middle age in worse financial shape than every living generation ahead of them."
Biden knows that if he can tap into these emotions, young voters will hand him the White House.
Specifically, we believe Biden's platform will cater to the hopelessness this generation feels – and consist of three main economic platforms...
- A "Debt Jubilee" for the masses
- Medicare for All
- Universal Basic Income
These radical ideas are already being pushed by many of the most influential progressive economists and academics in the nation today.
London School of Economics Professor David Graeber wrote an entire book on a Debt Jubilee and said...
We are long overdue for some kind of Biblical-style Jubilee... it would relieve so much genuine human suffering.
The national affairs correspondent for The Nation said we should...
Think Jubilee, American Style... because it combines a sense of social justice with old-fashioned common sense.
Paul Kedrosky, a senior fellow at the Kauffman Foundation (a liberal think tank) said...
We need a fresh start, and we need it now... we need... a Jubilee.
Economist and author Professor Steve Keen said...
It is incumbent for society to reduce the debt burden sooner rather than later... So a prima facie alternative to 15 years of deleveraging is an old-fashioned debt Jubilee.
Harvard economist Carmen Reinhart has called for a Debt Jubilee. So have financial pundits Barry Ritholtz and Chris Whalen, as well as renowned economist Stephen Roach of Yale University.
In Congress, more than a half-dozen Jubilee-style laws have already been proposed. It's the easiest way for a president to "level the playing field" for Millennials in one swift move.
But for progressives, a Debt Jubilee doesn't go far enough in terms of social-handout programs that will win voters.
That's why so many Democrats have embraced the concept of "Medicare for All."
This is an idea that progressive elites in our nation have been calling for. As one Harvard Medical School professor declared...
Why wouldn't we do [this] for all Americans, not just people over 65?
Former President Jimmy Carter wrote in a Time magazine editorial...
The lack of universal health coverage should be a national scandal.
Roughly two-thirds of all Americans are on board with this idea, too. But perhaps scariest of all is the national welfare program known as "Universal Basic Income," where every American – regardless of age, race, employment status, or net worth – would receive a monthly check directly from the government.
As with these other radical ideas, it has won the support of many of the Left's leading voices.
Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor for President Clinton, says...
Universal Basic Income will almost certainly be part of the answer.
Erik Olin Wright, the Marxist professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin, argues that Universal Basic Income will lead to...
A greatly expanded and deepened social economy... not subject to the discipline of profit maximization.
Nearly every major Silicon Valley billionaire is pushing this agenda, too – including Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who says Universal Basic Income is a way "to make sure that everyone has a cushion to try new ideas."
Tesla CEO Elon Musk told the World Government Summit that he believes it's inevitable that the U.S. will have to implement Universal Basic Income: "I don't think we are going to have a choice."
And Senator Warren has declared that Universal Basic Income is "an option to consider."
One thing is certain... For 83 million hopeless, indebted Millennials, something big needs to change. They're looking to the government to make it happen.
And should he win the election, Joe Biden will give them exactly what they want.
You'd better get ready for it.
Editor's note: No matter who wins the election in November, the American way of life could be forever changed already. Out of control money-printing... riots in the streets... soaring food prices... and suspended civil liberties. Where does it all lead?
On Thursday, July 30, at 10 a.m. Eastern time, our founder Porter Stansberry will sit down for an urgent crisis briefing to address that question. And more important, he'll lay out a roadmap to help you make sure your wealth and family are protected. Save your spot for this FREE event right here.
