'The Next Victim Is Being Teed Up' in the Banking Industry

Share

The historic few weeks that led to three of the largest bank failures in U.S. history have quickly become a secondary headline.

But today, we're going back there...

On this episode of Making Money With Matt McCall, I welcome investment legend Jim Rickards. He's the editor of financial newsletter Strategic Intelligence and the director of The James Rickards Project. He's also a New York Times bestselling author and a former advisor to the U.S. government.

Naturally, I've been a big fan of Jim for a long time. And I'm thrilled to pick his brain on everything going on in the financial industry.

Jim and I dive headfirst into the banks.

He points out that the headlines are misleading – and that more than three banks have failed so far. And he explains why he believes the carnage isn't over yet.

Then, we shift our focus to some of this year's other major topics...

One of the biggest is the Federal Reserve. Regular readers know that I believe the central bank is ready to pause its current rate-hike cycle. But does my guest agree? And what's next? Would a pause lead to a soft landing? Or is a recession around the corner?

Jim is a gold bug. So he shares why he backs the yellow metal and explains why he believes it's the only commodity that could replace the U.S. dollar as a reserve currency in the future.

He also shares his view on bitcoin and cryptos in general – at one point comparing them to gambling chips at a casino.

And to wrap up, I ask Jim my "island stock" question: What's the one investment he'd want to hold for the next 10 years? Based on what you just read, you may be able to guess...

Now, let me be clear. Jim and I don't agree on everything we talk about. But that's OK. I love talking to people with opposing viewpoints on the market. It allows us to become more balanced in our research and opinions...

And it just might allow us to become better long-term investors.
