U.S. Stocks May Not Be the Best Place for Your Money Today

Stocks have been on a tear in 2023...

At its late-July high, the S&P 500 Index was up 20% year to date. It has pulled back a bit since, but U.S. stocks still feel expensive.

That makes it an ideal time to consider investments in companies with operations outside our country's borders.

That's the focus of today's episode of Making Money With Matt McCall. And to do that, I welcome back my longtime friend Meb Faber to provide an easy-to-digest and data-backed view of today's market environment.

Meb is the co-founder and chief investment officer at Cambria Investment Management. I consider him to be one of the smarter people in the business... and the perfect person to chime in on the current state of stocks.

We jump right in by discussing the valuation of U.S. stocks right now. Then, Meb highlights countries around the world that are flat-out cheap by comparison.

Right now, most folks are investing the majority of their money in U.S. stocks. That's not necessarily a bad thing. But it doesn't provide the long-term diversification that's necessary to secure bigger and better returns.

Spreading your money out and investing in other markets can provide that.

Consider the emerging markets, for example. They're trading at much more attractive levels than their developed counterparts and provide unique opportunities for investors willing to invest outside their comfort zone.

Meb highlights five countries that are trading at incredibly low valuations right now. While I could guess a few, I was still surprised to hear just how good buying opportunities are around the globe.

If investing overseas makes you uncomfortable, that's OK. Today's episode may give you the incentive you need to make the plunge. At the very least, it'll open your eyes to the potential opportunities out there.
