I'm running for mayor of New York City

Share

It's true, and I want you to hear it from me... I am running for mayor of New York City.

As longtime readers know, I do my best to keep politics out of this e-letter and my investment newsletters... although that's sometimes difficult in today's hyper-partisan world.

But I'm making an exception here because it's not every day that I have such big news to share. You'll probably read about it at some point, especially if you live in the New York area (Bloomberg and the New York Post have already published articles). So I'd like to be the first to let you know... and answer a couple questions.

First of all... don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to keep writing my daily e-mails (probably in the wee hours of the night), and my team and I are going to keep delivering insightful, profitable investment advice and ideas to you. (Of course, that would change if I win... Mayor is a full-time job, after all. But the election is still a year away.)

I'm running because I can see what has gone wrong in New York City... America's big cities in general... and our national politics. And I have a lot of ideas on how to turn things around.

In part, they are rooted in my background as an investor...

While the analogy isn't perfect, I think my city is ripe for a turnaround similar to the many I've seen in my career, in which a once-great company – laid low by mismanagement and/or external shocks – is restored to its former glory by a new CEO brought in to be a change agent.

The CEO hires a new senior management team... and together they develop a strategy to fix the problems, run the organization better, and develop and implement great new ideas. This is the playbook New York City needs, and I know it well.

But...

I won't be writing about political matters or my campaign here...

Whitney Tilson's Daily is going to remain a politics-free zone. My team and I know you subscribe to receive our best insights into stocks and markets – and that's what we're going to continue to deliver. Nothing is going to change.

At the same time, I've always put a lot of myself into these daily e-mails.

I'm going to be the same person on the campaign trail that I've always been in print: a big-hearted realist who's always looking for the best ideas... a person who loves to engage in and fight for important things... and most importantly, a leader who isn't afraid to speak uncomfortable truths and take on entrenched interests.

If you'd like to learn more about my campaign and how I think we can restore New York City to its former glory, I would love it if you checked out my campaign website at www.whitneyformayor.com.

Considering the big announcement, I'll keep today's e-mail brief. And on a scheduling note, our Stansberry Research offices will be closed tomorrow and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday – so look for my next daily e-mail on Monday, December 2.

I hope all my readers have a wonderful Thanksgiving... and I'll be in touch with business as usual next week.

Best regards,

Whitney
