The S&A Digest
A top in oil?... More money=more sex... ExxonMobil is loaded... Why no foreign stocks letters?... Porter's out of excuses...
Goldsmith comment: Porter is still occupied with his upcoming issue... it will be out tomorrow. I don't know what he's writing about, but he's kept me at the Bloomberg terminal all week.
Money is good for more than just buying that new car... a survey of 600 high net-worth individuals has shown that people with money enjoy better sex lives. 84% of rich women and 63% of rich men reported an improved sex life. The majority of men reported more frequent sex with more partners as the biggest benefit their wealth had brought to the bedroom, while women reported improved individual experiences, regardless of the number of partners.

"The Energy Policy Act, signed into law in August 2005, contains several provisions designed to spur cellulosic ethanol production... So here we have the potential for a renewable energy product that's made from otherwise useless resources. It's cheap, highly energy-efficient, and funded by the government. And buying shares of ADM [Archer Daniels Midland] is the best and most conservative way to participate in this business." – Jeff Clark, Big Trend Report, December 2006.
ADM announced great earnings today, and the stock shot up nearly 11% during midday trading.
Signs of a market top... Google announced that its fourth-quarter profits nearly tripled and revenues surged 67%, but the stock was down about 3% this afternoon.
Signs of a top in oil... Extreme Value pick ExxonMobil (XOM) posted the largest annual profit in U.S. history, at $39.5 billion. ExxonMobil broke its own record, set in 2005, of $36 billion. Share prices rose slightly in pre-market trading. Readers have made more than 16% since July.
French scientists have found that Concord grape juice has the same effect as red wine on the heart. Now Porter's got no excuse.

"This is a follow up to HPT's report on the shenanigans on the Ford assembly line. Some years ago, I bought a Chevy Monte Carlo. A few months later, I started hearing this rattling in the driver side door. Next trip to the dealer for service, I mentioned there may be something wrong with my driver side window – there was a definite rattle coming from the door. Later, when I picked up the car, the service guy tells me with a smirk on his face, 'there's nothing wrong with your driver side window – we found a beer can inside the door well.' Needless to say, this made me feel really great about my car – thinking the guys who built it were boozing it up on the line. I have owned nothing but Hondas for 20 years and they go and go and go." – Paid-up subscriber Joe Femano
"In December, one of your publications recommended: 'Try 'grabbing' this dividend... Boston Properties (BXP), an office REIT...' I followed the suggestion and bought shares at $116 on December 21st. Yesterday I received my $6.08 dividend and the shares are trading today at over $125. Thanks !! – Nice 'grab'!!" – Paid-up subscriber Brian Clark
"Steve, you talk about the housing play in Japan and in a daily marketing note you refer to giving out a pick in your Confidential, but those of us at TW still do not have a Japan real estate play...why not give out the play on TW since you already have given it to SC? Thanks." – Paid-up subscriber Fred
"I couldn't help but notice that two of your top 10 performing stocks below (KEP and KHDH) are foreign stocks. Is there any reason for this dearth of non-US stocks in the portfolios? Why not roll out a newsletter focusing on foreign stocks (or at least offer more foreign selections via existing S&A newsletters) for your U.S.-based members that seek diversification not only outside the U.S. stock market but, moreover, out of the (possibly terminally) ill U.S. dollar?"
– Paid-up subscriber David Mattson
Porter Comment: Nobody buys "foreign stock" letters. Steve and I have tried many times before.
"I live 1/2 the year in the central Florida Keys and the other half in Tennessee. So Porter, I am no slouch as far as having a few sheckles. If you are shopping for a place to buy – come to Key Colony Beach! Gorgeous place and really great fishing. I fish a lot too! Catch a lot too! Not too many people catch many grouper. Catching a tarpon is no different than wrestling a fat girl in a Volkswagon in my opinion. Yes I am a paid-up subscriber and enjoy some of your driveling Strigeformus defecation." – Paid-up subscriber Chuck Korpak
