Coca-Cola's Cyberattack Just Exposed AI's Blind Spot

Hackers just cracked into Coca-Cola's (KO) dairy business...

On July 16, a major cyberattack spread throughout Fairlife, Coke's milk business. The hack was so bad that Coke paused milk production across the U.S... and it's unclear when operations will fully resume.

A few days later, a hacking group called Anubis took credit for the attack on July 21. In a post on the dark web, Anubis threatened to leak a terabyte of stolen Fairlife data unless Coke paid an unspecified ransom.

As you'd expect, the hack has weighed on Coke shares, which plunged 4% the day after the attack. But the larger story here isn't about Coke...

It's about how the Fairlife hack underscores just how irreplaceable one sector has become in the AI build-out.

I'm talking about cybersecurity...

AI Didn't Kill Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity stocks started the year under fire from AI.

In November 2025, Anthropic – the company behind the popular Claude AI model – investigated what it described as the world's first AI-based cyberattack.

Afterward, Anthropic concluded (our emphasis added)...

When sophisticated cyberattacks inevitably occur, our goal is for Claude – into which we've built strong safeguards – to assist cybersecurity professionals to detect, disrupt, and prepare for future versions of the attack.

The market heard something different...

Many investors assumed that this was a signal that Claude would make the cybersecurity sector obsolete. The sector crashed double digits between November 2025 and this April.

But I wasn't convinced. In February, I pointed out the mismatch in cybersecurity sentiment...

In the long term, cybersecurity stocks deserve your attention. These companies are selling off despite the growing tailwinds for their business.

Since then, cybersecurity stocks have soared more than 40%.

And as we've said in the past, major cyberattacks like the one at Fairlife often create buying opportunities. Looking back, it seems the market simply underestimated these businesses as they feared Claude had stolen the spotlight.

What's more, history is repeating itself...

Last week, Anthropic released a beta of its Claude Security Plugin for Claude Code. This new feature scans computers for vulnerabilities, then recommends patches the user can review before installing them themselves.

Cybersecurity stocks peaked shortly before the announcement. Since July 14, the sector has fallen about 7% – as measured by the basket of cyber stocks in the First Trust Nasdaq Cybersecurity Fund (CIBR).

Take a look...

This recent sell-off shows the market is still skittish when it comes to cybersecurity. Each time AI defense takes a step forward, cyber investors rush for the exits.

But cybersecurity will remain essential in the new AI world.

The Fairlife hack highlights a classic dilemma for businesses: If you build a 10-foot wall, attackers can simply build an 11-foot ladder.

Claude may include lots of security features. But hackers can use Claude, too. And with new, sophisticated Chinese open-weight models, criminals can access coding capabilities that rival Claude... with none of Anthropic's guardrails.

In short, AI isn't eliminating cyber threats... It's making them more sophisticated.

And that means the threat landscape is still expanding. So the stakes for companies are still rising.

Yet it seems that Mr. Market is underestimating the sector again. Despite the recent dip, cybersecurity companies look more important than ever today.

But you don't need to wait for the herd to catch up. Add cybersecurity stocks to your watch list today.

Good investing,

In a recent experiment, AI agents were tasked with running a virtual society. Within days, civilization collapsed, plagued by arson, theft, and death. Luckily, this was only a simulation... But it revealed why reliable AI governance may become just as valuable as AI itself.

America is facing a modern day "Manhattan Project." At the same site where scientists uncovered how to split an atom sits one of the world's most powerful supercomputers. But this time, the goal isn't nuclear power... it's building an AI network strong enough to reshape scientific discovery and America's technological future.
